In the Fall of 2008, the Urbana Champaign Independent Media Center, UC Books to Prisoners' parent organization, applied for multiple AmeriCorps positions through a
Serve Illinois / AmeriCorps grant.
In the Summer of 2009 the IMC was awarded this grant, supplying the organization with eight positions, one of which was allocated to UC Books to Prisoners for the position of Outreach Coordinator. Judith Pond has been appointed to this position effective October 5th 2009.

A native of the Bronx, NY, Judith is a 2009 graduate of Stanford University who has recently moved to Champaign-Urbana. Prior to coming to C-U, Judith worked a variety of jobs on the Stanford campus, with Quest Scholars Program, and volunteered with incarcerated individuals in
Stanford Beyond Bars.
As the Books to Prisoners outreach coordinator, Judith will be responsible for scheduling, supervising, and planning programing for community groups that are interested in volunteering with BTP.
She will also be available to speak to community organizations that would like to learn more about BTP and will be responsible for our publication of inmate writing.
UC Books to Prisoners is proud to welcome Judith to our organization.
